Job Title: Case Worker

Summary:  The Section 8 Housing Division of the Township of Montclair Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a self-motivated individual to fill the position of Case Worker. The Case Worker supports the Senior Case Worker and the Housing Officer, and the mission of the Section 8 Housing Office by working with low income families and individuals to assist them with rental subsidies in a professional and nonjudgmental manner. The Case Worker performs some casework requiring a moderate degree of decision-making, administrative duties, and related work as required. Works under the general supervision of the Section 8 Housing Officer who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.

Duties:  Receives visitors and provides exemplary customer service. Responds to inquiries, phone calls and emails in a timely manner; maintains inventory, orders office supplies, and processes purchase orders. Provides administrative support to Senior Case Worker and Section 8 Housing Officer. Collects fees, prepares deposits, makes reconciliations, and performs financial recordkeeping. Attends meetings and conferences, takes minutes as required. Visits disabled clients at home to perform annual recertifications. Performs preliminary research, collects and arranges data as required. Composes and types correspondence, applying a knowledge of office operations and regulations; makes appointments and arranges meetings; assembles and maintains pertinent files and materials relevant to correspondence and reports.

Requirements:  High School graduate or equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree preferred; applicable experience may be considered in lieu of degree.  Two (2) years of experience in the capacity of a Case Worker in a business or government agency. Thorough knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel, plus superior customer service skills. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License and must possess a Housing Choice Voucher Specialist Certification at time of hire or within six (6) months of hiring date.
