The Economic Impact of the 2026 World Cup in New Jersey

Luis de la Hoz, Chairman of the Board of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), joined Allan Villafaña on Telemundo's Enfoque to discuss the economic opportunities the 2026 World Cup brings for Hispanic business owners in New Jersey.

Visitors and Spending Nearly 3 million visitors are expected, staying an average of 10 days each. All of them will need transportation, food, entertainment, and services — with or without a ticket to the stadium.

Beware of FIFA Trademarks: FIFA holds 140 registered trademarks. Small business owners cannot use World Cup images, logos, or references on products for sale without official authorization. Only official sponsors have that right.

The Hispanic Advantage: New Jersey offers a unique and diverse culinary scene — Peruvian, Mexican, Colombian, Bolivian, Salvadoran, and more. Visitors from around the world will be looking for authentic flavors, and they will find them here.

The Money Is Already Flowing: Business owners should not wait for the first game to start seeing economic benefits. Sponsoring companies are already spending. Opportunities exist now through corporate events, activations, and private services.

Transportation: There will be no car access to the stadium. Fans will need to arrive by train or bus. Planning ahead is essential.

Local Activations: There will be no single large Fan Fest in New Jersey. Instead, free activations will take place across municipalities including New Brunswick and other cities, funded by $5 million approved by the state government.

New Jersey as a Destination: Elizabeth if Colombia plays, Newark if Brazil or Portugal plays, Passaic if Mexico plays. The goal is for visitors to return home recommending New Jersey as a tourist destination.
