From the Chairman

By Luis O. De La Hoz, Chairman of the Board, Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey

September 13, 2026

Hay una expresión que utilizamos mucho: “Under promise and over deliver.”

Acceso a capital. Contratos. Certificaciones. Tecnología. Inteligencia artificial. Educación financiera. Fuerza laboral. Bienes raíces. Nuevos mercados. Clientes.

Juntos Somos Familia.

English: From the Chairman

It’s Not Luck: It’s Hard Work, Discipline, Perseverance and Relationships

By Luis O. De La Hoz, chairman of the Board, Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey

Here in New Jersey, we are a community of approximately 2.5 million Hispanics from 17 countries, united by something greater than a shared language: our aspirations, our strong work ethic, our entrepreneurial spirit and our desire to build a better future for our families.

It is a numbers game, but it is also about organization, trust and results.

When a community of this size connects its economic power with corporations, government and decision-making institutions, we can transform individual opportunities into collective growth.

That is one of the greatest responsibilities of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ).

Serving as a Trusted Liaison—and Delivering Results

Being one of New Jersey’s largest chambers by membership is an enormous privilege, but, above all, it is a responsibility.

Our work is not limited to organizing events, networking or bringing people together. We must serve as a trusted liaison between business owners and those with the resources, capital, contracts, knowledge and capacity to help them grow.

We must listen to the challenges our entrepreneurs face and bring those conversations to the corporations, government agencies and institutions that can help us develop solutions.

But our strategy has one fundamental condition: focusing on results.

There is an expression we use often: “Underpromise and overdeliver.”

We prefer to promise less and deliver more. To build credibility through action. To develop personal and professional relationships grounded in trust, consistency and measurable results.

Because a strong relationship can open a door. Results keep that door open.

Business Owners Are Our Strongest Connection to the Community

Companies seeking to understand and authentically connect with the Hispanic market must recognize something fundamental: Business owners themselves are one of the best gateways into the community.

Our entrepreneurs have spent years—and often decades—building relationships with their customers.

Restaurant owners know the families in their communities. Accountants know hundreds of entrepreneurs. Supermarket owners understand their customers’ habits. Attorneys, contractors, insurance agents, real estate professionals and service providers have built relationships that cannot be purchased through an advertising campaign.

They are built through time and trust.

That is why we want our Growth Business Partners, Corporate Partners, Corporate Sustaining Partners, nonprofit organizations and government institutions to view SHCCNJ as more than simply an organization to sponsor.

We want to be their strategic partner for growth and results.

We bring trust, entrepreneurs, reach, knowledge of our communities and relationships built over many years. Our partners bring resources, expertise, capital, opportunities and institutional capacity.

When we align those strengths, we can all grow.

Aligning Capacity With Opportunity

Our purpose is simple: to identify entrepreneurs who have the desire and capacity to grow and connect them with strategic partners who can help us address real needs.

Access to capital. Contracts. Certifications. Technology. Artificial intelligence. Financial education. Workforce development. Real estate. New markets. Customers. Mentorship.

Not every business needs the same thing, and not every business is at the same stage. Our responsibility is to understand those differences and help build the right bridges.

And we must do so early.

An opportunity we learn about when it is already closing is not truly an opportunity. That is why we also need the active participation of our members.

The Chamber Does Not End When the Event Does

I invite you to use our social media platforms as an extension of our face-to-face conversations.

Follow us. Comment. Share. Ask questions. Participate.

When thousands of members exchange information, we can identify opportunities sooner, share knowledge and help other entrepreneurs prepare.

Our goal is not simply to tell you that an opportunity exists. We want to help you be ready to seize it.

None of this would be possible without our extraordinary SHCCNJ team, our members, Board, Corporate Advisory Council, volunteers, allies and everyone who contributes their time, expertise and relationships to our mission. Every result the Chamber achieves is the product of a collective effort.

The future of our business community is extraordinarily promising, but we must build it together.

Because opportunities may look like luck when they finally arrive. But being prepared to seize them is not luck.

It is hard work. It is discipline.

It is perseverance. It is trust.

It is relationships.

And, above all, it is working together. Juntos Somos Familia.
