SHCCNJ Applauds Governor Mikie Sherrill’s Budget Priorities and Her Commitment to Strengthening New Jersey’s Small Business Community 

Lyndhurst, NJ — March 11, 2026 — The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), representing more than 150,000 Hispanic-owned businesses across the state, today praised Governor Mikie Sherrill for her continued commitment to small business growth, affordability, and economic opportunity as outlined in her FY26 and FY27 budget proposals. 

The Chamber highlighted the Governor’s focus on protecting true small businesses, expanding access to resources, and ensuring that New Jersey’s entrepreneurs, especially those in minority and immigrant communities, have the support they need to thrive. 

A Budget That Recognizes the Backbone of New Jersey’s Economy 

Governor Sherrill’s FY27 Budget Address emphasized the importance of small businesses in driving job creation, innovation, and community development. Her proposal includes reforms that limit corporate misuse of small-business tax deductions, ensuring that relief reaches the local entrepreneurs it was originally designed to help. 

“Governor Sherrill has made it clear that New Jersey’s small businesses, not large corporations, deserve targeted support,” said Carlos Medina, President & CEO of SHCCNJ. “By restoring the integrity of small-business tax programs and prioritizing affordability, the Governor is strengthening the foundation of our state’s economy.” 

Over $500,000 in Direct Support for Small Business Development 

SHCCNJ applauds the allocation of more than $500,000 in direct support for small business training, technical assistance, and entrepreneurial development programs. These funds will expand the Chamber’s ability to: 

• Deliver bilingual business education and certification programs 

• Provide technical assistance to early-stage entrepreneurs 

• Support women-owned and minority-owned business growth 

• Increase access to procurement and contracting opportunities 

• Strengthen mentorship, networking, and accelerator programs  

A Focus on Affordability and Accountability 

The Chamber also commended the Governor’s broader affordability agenda, including: 

• Capping corporate tax loopholes to ensure fairness 

• Protecting small-business tax deductions for companies earning under $1 million 

• Investing in workforce development and infrastructure 

• Supporting healthcare cost reforms that benefit small employers 

• Expanding housing affordability, which directly impacts small business labor markets 

These measures, SHCCNJ noted, will help stabilize operating costs for small businesses and create a more predictable economic environment.
