Rutherford, N.J. — Our leadership at the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey welcomes Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s decision to pivot World Cup Fan Festival planning toward a statewide community initiative designed to expand participation and economic opportunity tied to the 2026 global soccer tournament.

President Carlos Medina underscored that this is an encouraging initiative.

“Black and Brown businesses have been significantly affected by recent immigration enforcement actions, so this initiative offers a welcome reprieve for a business community under real strain. Thank you, Governor.”

We believe this shift has the potential to bring meaningful benefits to local communities, small businesses and cultural organizations throughout New Jersey while positioning the state to maximize the tournament’s projected multibillion-dollar economic impact.

“As Innovation Hub Manager of the Jersey City office of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, I’m thrilled about this opportunity for small businesses throughout New Jersey. The World Cup initiative creates meaningful pathways for entrepreneurs to expand their reach, showcase their cultures, and benefit directly from the economic momentum this global event will bring to our communities,” said Daniela C. Velez.

Additional details regarding funding availability, eligibility criteria and implementation timelines are expected soon. We look forward to engaging constructively with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, which previously supported our Innovation Hub at the New Jersey City University School of Business in Jersey City, as well as with the regional Host Committee to help maximize statewide impact.

Chairman Luis O. De La Hoz and President Carlos Medina also welcome Governor Sherrill’s $5 million World Cup Community Initiative as an important investment in surrounding New Jersey communities and are eager to see how it translates into tangible opportunities for Hispanic businesses.

“We’re encouraged by the focus on inclusive, community-based programming and cultural representation,” said De La Hoz.

We remain committed to working with public and private partners to help ensure Hispanic entrepreneurs, who play a vital role in New Jersey’s economic landscape, are positioned to participate fully as planning for the 2026 tournament continues.
